Assistive Technology Consideration

The AT Consideration process involves team collaboration, a review of the student’s current performance and an analysis of the barriers that prevent the student from making progress or gaining access to the curriculum.

Areas of Concern

To provide the appropriate supports, we must determine the types of difficulties the student is experiencing.

 

Communication

The area of communication consist of speech sound production and use, receptive and expressive language, voice, fluency, augmentative and alternative communication.

The motor aspects of writing include handwriting  and keyboarding skills. Handwriting and/or keyboarding is a complex process which involves visual perception, motor skills, and neuromuscular components.

In the area of reading students may struggle with phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, comprehension and fluency.  In the area of math a student may struggle with  calculation, visual-spatial skills, organization, and problem solving.

In the are of daily living students may struggle with  feeding, dressing, grooming tasks, toiling and house hold chores.

Vocational

The vocational area consist of general work behaviors, directions, working independently or with job supports, job preferences or interest, dexterity, abilities, interpersonal relationships and socialization related work skills.

The recreational area consist of sports, recreation and leisure activities. Participating in group game play in and out of the classroom.
